In 1916, American poet Robert Frost composed the poem, "Out, Out-". It is essentially a recast of the "Tomorrow, and Tomorrow, and Tomorrow" passage from Shakespeare's Macbeth. It references the line spoken by Macbeth, "...out, out brief candle...". The poem tells the story of a young man who tries to grow up too fast and has his youthful life cut short when he is mortally wounded in a freak buzz-saw accident. In this cover painting of the poem I wanted to loosely illustrate the tender innocence of youth juxtaposed by the jagged ruthlessness of life.

The invaders in this piece are allowed to exist only for a short time as Wells uses a literary plot device to abruptly end the invasion - "Dues Ex Machina" or, "God from the machine". The phrase is a plot twist whereby a seemingly unsolvable problem is suddenly and abruptly resolved by the inspired and unexpected intervention of some new event, character, ability or object. In the case of this painting they will return, and next time they come they will be ready.

"Dulce et Decorum est" is a poem written by Wilfred Owen during World War I, and published posthumously in 1920. The Latin title is taken from the Roman poet Horace and means "it is sweet and honorable...", followed by pro patria mori, which means "to die for one's country". Owen calls it the great lie.

Most all of the pop art paintings featured on this page are 48” x 48” x 2” and painted on the artists own handcrafted wood canvases. Depending on the complexity of the subject matter each painting takes roughly 30 hours to complete from concept study, construction to rendering and actual paint execution. The surface of these are double primed and sanded leaving subtle nuances and variations in surface texture making each piece as unique in subject as they are in make up. The frame structure is constructed from 1”x 2” high-quality pine, wood glued and brad-nailed together for maximum strength and durability. Temperature swings are not a problem.

All finished art pieces are eye-catching, nimble to manage and look awesome on any wall. Each painting weighs on average about 8 - 10 lbs. and hangs flush on either direct-to-stud or sheetrock anchors. Hanger hardware is provided by the artist for all art purchased.
